Her dance practice takes the form of choreographic and video installations; focusing on the emergence of imaginary landscapes through the body; distilled from distant dreams, buried memories and psychotropic reminiscences. Her work has been presented at MAI, l&#8217;Arsenal, Tangente, and through several international festivals, including SIDance (Korea) and Krossing-Over (Vietnam). In her video work, Ch\u00e2u is interested in contemplative composition, highlighting the body in motion. Her approach is technical yet radically spare. Her work has been shown at several festivals, most recently the Rendez-vous du cin\u00e9ma qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois. In 2019, her career was honoured at a retrospective exhibit at Threshold Artspace, Perth, UK, premiering her installation <em>WITNESS<\/em> that captures metaphoric histories with docu-fiction resonances. The process-driven continuum of the <em>MIGRATION DANCE FILM PROJECT<\/em> directed by Millar comes to life as she transposes Sandy Silva\u2019s choreography to the screen, revealing the intricacies of issue-driven, performative stories. The films have garnered over 30 awards and prizes internationally. Since 2000, Marlene has co-created an acclaimed collection of dance media work with Philip Szporer through their company, <a href=\"https:\/\/mouvementperpetuel.net\/\">Mouvement Perp\u00e9tuel<\/a>. Her artistic journey has garnered prestigious recognition, including the 2021 Best National Medium-Length Film award at the Montreal International Documentary Festival (RIDM) for her work titled &#8216;The Truss Arch.&#8217; Subsequently, in 2022, she was awarded the title of Best Experimental Film at Les Rendez-vous Qu\u00e9bec Cin\u00e9ma. Sonya&#8217;s creative work extended to the 2022 Iris Awards, where her film earned a nomination for Best Short Documentary. Her work has graced the screens of renowned festivals such as the Ann Arbor Film Festival and other international venues. During her residency in Argentina with ArtlabPro, Sonya collaborated with Amplify D.A.I. sound artist Lain-9, resulting in the debut of their creation, &#8216;IK Pegasi,&#8217; crafted with Touch Designer. Sonya&#8217;s artistic pursuits have led her to collaborate with esteemed entities, including the multimedia dance company Animals of Distinction and the experimental music act Group A from Berlin, composed of Tommi Tokyo and Sayaka Botanic. In partnership with artist Stephanie Castonguay, their collective, known as &#8216;Technologies of Consciousness,&#8217; became the first-ever artists-in-residence at Biosphere Montreal. As a visual artist, she is programmed at the Festival TransAm\u00e9riques (FTA) in the summer of 2016 to present at Place des Arts her very first solo exhibition entitled <em>Hydra<\/em>, which archives with poetry and originality intergenerational choreographic creative processes through photographs, videos and drawings. To underline the quality of her work, she received the William Douglas University Prize in 2015, then in 2018 the prestigious Patrons of the Arts prize to highlight the artistic innovation of a project that continues the search for her memory-creation around the links between documentary film, cultural identity and contemporary dance.
